Great Secretary of the National Drug Board
Dr. Daniel Radío Presta was appointed General Secretary of the National Drug Board, on July 1, 2020, office that reports to the Presidency of the Republic. Previously, he acted as National Secretary of Care of the Social Development Ministry for a four-month period.
Dr. Radío is a doctor of medicine and has been linked to the subject of drugs for a long time, both from the exercise of his profession as a doctor, and from his experience as a legislator.
In effect, Dr. Radío has practiced medicine, having been a Resident of Family and Community Medicine, assuming responsibilities in the public sphere. He was Sub Director and Deputy Director at the “Jardines del Hipódromo” Health Center, a first-level care center located in the northeast periphery of Montevideo, where he worked particularly in relation to people with problematic drug use, and even participated in a device of treatment with therapeutic companions, which was an interesting experience that took place in the area.
He was also elected Deputy in two consecutive legislative periods (2010-2015 and 2015-2020). In both periods, he joined the Addiction Advisory Commission, of which he was Vice President in 2018. Since 2010, he actively participated in the debate on the decriminalization of cannabis self-cultivation, and is a signatory to one of the projects in this regard.
He also integrated the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies of which he was President in 2012 and Vice President in 2014.
